Performing Displacement and Crisis by Female Prisoners: An Evaluation of Social Empowerment through Applied Theatre is a practice-based research project initiated by the University Grant Commission (UGC) and supported by the University of Dhaka, People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The Brief

This innovative project seeks to explore the transformative potential of applied theatre as a medium for empowering female prisoners.The project combines practical performance techniques with critical evaluation, shedding light on the capacity of arts-based interventions to contribute to personal and societal empowerment within marginalized communities.

Through the use of applied theatre, the project aims to empower incarcerated women by fostering self-expression, confidence, and interpersonal skills. It explores how participatory drama and storytelling can serve as transformative tools for personal and social development, ultimately aiding in their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
